COURSE DESCRIPTION
International business dominates headlines every day. Persistent trade war with China! Sweatshops in Mexico and Vietnam! Factories moving out of the US… to where?! Governments collaborating on regulation of social media platforms, carbon emissions, and tax collection! And, oh yeah, the pandemic, with its waves of shocks to global supply chains, leading to even greater global reliance on Chinese manufacturing capacity. Even as nationalism, populism, and Covid cases and variants roar around the world and trade wars simmer, the global economy continues getting more and more interconnected. International Business creates trillions of dollars of profit every year. In our daily life, we are surrounded by objects and products that were made across the globe. Every single country is codependent on another.
Businesses, whether in the public or private sector, are constantly seeking to expand internationally. They therefore need experts who can manage global businesses effectively. A career in International Business opens doors to the global arena.
The goal of this course is to introduce students to the field of international business. This course will present an in-depth overview of international business fundamentals. We will learn about global business environments, including socioeconomic political, cultural and linguistic in which international business operate. At the conclusion of this class, students will be able to describe:
* What international business is
* What globalization is
* How political and social institutions affect the development of national economies
* What the function of culture is
* What the benefits of globalization are
* What foreign currencies are and how exchange rates are determined
* What a PESTEL Analysis is
* What the current global business environment looks like
* Some of the key issues that a business might face when entering into the world beyond their own country
* Role of technology in increasing global interactions
* The practices of doing business in today’s global environment
* How to gain a global edge
